Dr Walter J King – Co-Founder/Chairman

Inventor-Writer-Entrepreneur-Philanthropist

It all began late one warm evening, relaxing outside a bar in the heart of Cheung Chau. Peter and I started to talk about a possible business collaboration, possibly island-based, but what would it be? We struggled to find inspiration.

Although it has never been my main occupation, for over fifty years, from student journalism to writing books and starting a local newspaper in Wales, I had flirted on and off with journalism and publishing.

“How about a newspaper for Cheung Chau?”, I offered. Peter seemed unimpressed and we talked about other things. But by the next day he had taken the idea, refined it and pointed it towards what you see here: the 21st century version of my advertising free-sheet of the 1980s, promoting local businesses and providing local information, while taking on this new role of giving the outer islands of Hong Kong a tool to compete for the Almighty tourist dollar (not forgetting the yuan) with the far higher profile destinations of The Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon.

What next? We need to add Lantau, a major operation in itself, to complete the set of four. And after that, we are looking at repeating this exercise for other Asian tourist destinations. I'd better not reveal where just yet. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.
